I joined Facebook
to keep up with friends and family. I have educators in my friends list,
but I don’t use them for networking. Used appropriately Facebook can be a great
tool to use in the classroom for research and connections, much in the same way
as Twitter. Here is an article by Edudemic

Ways to Use Facebook In Your Classroom.

I love Pinterest! Our district finally unlocked Pinterest so we could use it at
school. It is a great resource for anything and everything you might need ideas
for. I have used it a lot this year to get some new ideas for activities I do
with my students. It is a great place to get inspiration. TeachThought posted

Ways Teachers Can Use Pinterest In the Classroom.
Before taking this class I hadn’t really thought about
using Facebook or Pinterest as a PLN. Now that I we have started learning about
PLNs and the ways they can be used I see how social networks can be a great
tool and how both Facebook and Pinterest can be used to build my PLN.
I'll admit I am addicted to Facebook, checking it multiple times a day. I suppose it is worth giving a try in classroom applications, but I would be afraid that students would drift off to do their socializing. I certainly would be tempted to.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for Pinterest because my son thought I really should, but I didn't really get into it, and I never thought of it as an educational tool. Obviously, I need to revisit Pinterest with a different mindset.
That is great that your district unlocked Pinterest for your district educators. I wish more districts would do this. I know a lot of teachers that I work with have implemented the ideas or lessons they have found on Pinterest in their classroom. Pinterest is great for allowing users to exchange other users’ ideas. I feel sooner rather than later that more districts will be allowing us educators to access these personal learning networks.
ReplyDeleteI had always seen Pinterest as just a sort of arts & crafts site at first, but about a year ago I watched all the creative ideas other teachers were putting into use in their classroom, and finally this year I realized how much I was missing out on when another teacher recommended a chemistry experiment on density to me that she had seen, but I didn't have an account at the time. Over the past few months, I have started to really see this as a big addition to any teacher's PLN.
