I am
familiar with several of the collaboration tools in the reading this week, but
I have not used some of them enough to consider myself an expert. The book
mentioned two of my favorites: Wordle and Voki. I never thought of these as collaborative
tools, but I agree with the Web 2.0 book that Voki is a great motivational
tool. My students love creating them! Here are some Vokis that my students have created. Warning! Both of them have spoiler alerts!
The tool
that I explored was Evernote. I actually
already had this app on my iPad, but I haven’t used it. The iTunes
description of Evernote is “an
easy-to-use, free app that helps you remember everything across all of the
devices you use. Stay organized, save your ideas and improve productivity.
Evernote lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice
reminders--and makes these notes completely searchable, whether you are at
home, at work, or on the go.” Being able to have everything in one place is
great. This would have made taking notes in high school and college a lot
easier! I’m sure I could find ways to use it with my 5th graders,
but I think it would be more beneficial to the upper grades and college
students. Follow them on Twitter: @evernote

My kids like Wordle and Voki too. I created the Voki classroom this year - it's worth the $30 for me. This weekend I will be reviewing the 27 Vokis one class created. I have played with Evernote some. We considered it as our note taking app and several students do use it but we decided to go with the Noteability app because of some features. However, the upgrade to Evernote has added new features and it is also accessible online - not just on iPad.
ReplyDeleteNotability is my go-to app. I use it all the time!
DeleteAfter some of the disorginzation I see with my 4th graders sometimes, evernote sounds like a great tool to strategically offer to correct that problem......
ReplyDeleteWhen we go to WiFi and BYOD I would be willing to try and use it with my students for organization.
DeleteI have heard of Evernote, but I have not used it before. A lot of my students have trouble with organizing and keeping track of their notes. I think Evernote would help my students in the note taking process. I think my students would enjoy using a tool like Evernote .
ReplyDeleteI really like Notability. I use it more than any of my other "educational" apps.
DeleteI've never heard of Evernote, but seems very promising..Any ideas on how to use it for 1st grade students? I really want to try Voki and have them record their stories they write for fun. I think they'd really like that.
